Dr. Michael Barfield

Michael Barfield, Ed.D., LSW is a native of Pittsburgh. Dr. Barfield is a seasoned behavioral health professional with over 30 years of experience in community and residential behavioral health organizations. He has held various roles as a therapist and clinical administrator. He has extensive experience in clinical leadership and program development.

Reverend John Cook

Reverend John Cook brings a wealth of experience with non-profit community organizations to our Board. He formerly served as the Executive Director of the Rankin Christian Center. He currently serves as the Pastor of Victory Baptist Church on the Northside, and the Executive Secretary of the Allegheny Union Baptist Association.

Dr. Sherlyn Harrison

Sherlyn Harrison, Ed.D., is the Chief Program Officer for the Pittsburgh Scholar House. As a part of her work Dr. Harrison develops and implements programs which, build impactful partnerships with community organizations and higher education institutions. A key focus of her work is developing two-generational holistic programming to support parenting students pursuing higher education while eliminating barriers to degree completion.

Ms. Betty Huguley

Ms. Betty Huguley is currently a Peer Support Specialist and a lifelong, engaged resident of the Hill District. She retired from the Pittsburgh Public School District where she served many years as a conflict mediator. She brings to the Board her enthusiasm and passion about uplifting others and strengthening her community.

Mrs. Charlene Scott

Mrs. Charlene Scott is a highly reliable and dedicated administrative professional. She comes to our board with many years of experience as a secretary and is proficient in managing schedules, handling confidential information and producing accurate documentation. One of Mrs. Scott’s greatest assets is her ability to get along with all types of people.

Ms. Astrid Ware

Astrid Ware, M.Ed. has been involved with the Center For Family Excellence and our Values For Life Curriculum for many years. Ms. Ware retired from the Pittsburgh Public School District where she served as a special education and rehabilitation teacher. She provided individualized instruction to socially and emotionally disturbed children and adolescents who could not function in the regular classroom. Ms. Ware also assessed academic skills and concepts, expressive receptive modalities, social behavior, and reinforcement systems.
